Pakistan to build new motorway; route is unveiled
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced an important decision to link the holy sites of Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib with Pakistan’s national motorway network.
While chairing a high-level meeting, the minister directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to start work on the Sialkot–Kartarpur Motorway, which will be called the “Guru Nanak Expressway.” The project aims to make travel easier for pilgrims visiting these sacred Sikh sites.
Aleem Khan said that 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star hotels will be built along the expressway to provide better facilities for pilgrims and visitors. He added that modern rest areas and shopping malls will also be constructed on the route.
To attract investment from the global Sikh community, the NHA will launch international marketing campaigns in London, Canada, and the United States. These projects will be promoted through international roadshows to encourage foreign investment.
Calling the project a “game-changer for the region,” the minister said the new expressway will bring strong social and economic benefits to nearby towns, including Narang Mandi and Badu Malhi.
The new motorway will connect Sialkot to Kartarpur, improve travel for pilgrims, and support development in surrounding areas.
