The Punjab government has declared five consecutive holidays in Lahore from February 4 to February 8, bringing together a religious observance, a national day, and the city’s traditional Basant celebrations into an extended break.
According to an official notification, the holiday period will commence on Wednesday, February 4, in observance of Shab-e-Barat. This will be followed by a nationwide public holiday on February 5 to mark Kashmir Day. Basant festivities will then take place from February 6 through February 8, resulting in an uninterrupted five-day holiday in the provincial capital.
During this period, all schools, colleges, and government offices in Lahore will remain closed, allowing residents to take part in Basant-related activities and spend time with their families.
Separately, the Punjab government has also announced a province-wide public holiday on February 4 in connection with Shab-e-Barat. A notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) stated that all provincial government offices, including autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, government corporations, local councils, and government and semi-government educational institutions, will remain closed across Punjab on that day. Authorities have directed the Auqaf Department and other relevant agencies to ensure adequate arrangements at mosques, shrines, and cemeteries to manage expected gatherings.
Meanwhile, officials have stressed the importance of strict safety measures during Basant celebrations, particularly regarding kite flying. The city administration has highlighted crowd control and accident prevention as key priorities, given past incidents linked to the festival. Events such as music concerts, kite-flying competitions, and community programs are being organized under official supervision to ensure safe and orderly celebrations.
In a related development, the Sindh School Education Department has also announced a holiday for all government and private educational institutions across the province on February 4, 2026, corresponding to 15 Shaban 1447 AH, in observance of Shab-e-Barat.
