World Bank President Ajay Banga has arrived in Pakistan on an official visit highlighted by cultural and religious engagements aimed at strengthening ties and promoting mutual understanding. As part of his itinerary, Banga, along with his delegation, visited the historic Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib, one of the most significant Sikh religious sites in the country.

He was received by Minister for Minority Affairs Amrish Singh Arora, alongside senior local officials, including the District Police Officer and the Deputy Commissioner. During the visit, Banga took part in traditional religious observances at the shrine, reflecting respect for Sikh traditions and Pakistan’s religious diversity.

Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also accompanied the World Bank president during the visit. Members of the Sikh community honored Banga by presenting him with a sarupa, a ceremonial robe symbolizing respect and goodwill. Strict security arrangements were in place throughout the visit to ensure the safety of the high-profile delegation.

Following the visit to the Gurdwara, Banga and his team traveled to the Taxila Museum, where they explored Pakistan’s rich archaeological and historical heritage.

The visit highlights the World Bank’s continued engagement with Pakistan, not only on economic and development matters but also through cultural and interfaith initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue and mutual respect.
