World Bank President’s Visit to Gurdwara Punja Sahib Highlights Religious Harmony in Pakistan
Hasan Abdal, Pakistan — World Bank President Ajay Pal Singh Banga visited Gurdwara Siri Punja Sahib in Hasan Abdal, Attock, in a move widely seen as reinforcing Pakistan’s image as a country committed to religious harmony, tolerance, and minority rights.
During the visit, Ajay Banga paid his respects at the historic Sikh religious site, participated in a special prayer ceremony, and shared Langar, the community meal, with members of the Sikh community.
Senior Government Officials Accompany Visit
The World Bank President was accompanied by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora.
Their presence highlighted the Pakistani government’s state-level commitment to minority protection, inclusive governance, and interfaith respect.
Senior civil administration officials and police officers were also present, ensuring foolproof security arrangements throughout the visit.
Symbol of Interfaith Harmony
Participation in the Langar alongside the Sikh community was seen as a strong symbol of equality, unity, and social cohesion.

Every year, thousands of Sikh pilgrims from Pakistan and abroad visit sites like Gurdwara Punja Sahib, especially during major religious events such as Baisakhi.
Authorities said these initiatives aim to promote religious tourism, strengthen people-to-people ties, and enhance Pakistan’s global image.

Observers described Ajay Banga’s visit as a sign of international goodwill and recognition of Pakistan’s efforts to promote religious freedom and peaceful coexistence.
