Who is the new CEO of K-Electric after Moonis Alvi resign?

K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi has resigned from his post, sources confirmed on Wednesday, marking the end of his long association with the power utility.

According to sources familiar with the development, Alvi had been experiencing prolonged mental stress in recent months following harassment allegations filed by a former K-Electric employee. Alvi joined the company in 2008 and served in several key leadership positions, including Chief Financial Officer, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury, before being appointed CEO in 2018.

With more than three decades of professional experience, Alvi played a central role in shaping K-Electric’s strategic direction. During his tenure as chief executive, he led multiple high-impact initiatives, most notably the internationally recognised Roshani Baji programme, and frequently represented the company in public and corporate forums.

The controversy surrounding Alvi emerged last year when K-Electric’s former chief marketing and communications officer accused him of harassment, issuing threats, and fostering a hostile work environment. She submitted a formal complaint to the Sindh High Oversight Authority, headed by retired Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq. The authority initially ordered Alvi’s removal from office and imposed a fine of Rs25 million.

Alvi consistently denied the allegations and stated his intention to challenge the ruling. The case was later reviewed by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, who overturned the oversight authority’s decision on July 31, 2025, citing that critical evidence had been overlooked during the earlier proceedings.

Despite the reversal of the order, sources suggest the prolonged controversy and its personal toll ultimately led to Alvi’s decision to step down from the top role at K-Electric.
