Is Tommaso Cioni a Suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnapping? Sheriff Updates on New Leads
February 10, 2026 – The search for NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has entered its second week. Nancy, 84, went missing on January 31, 2026, after attending a family dinner at her daughter Annie Guthrie’s home. She was last seen at her residence in Tucson, Arizona. Authorities believe she may have been taken against her will.
Recent attention has focused on Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, after multiple searches were conducted at their home. Some reports suggested that Tommaso could be a person of interest in the case.
Is Tommaso Cioni a Prime Suspect?
Journalist Ashleigh Banfield raised questions about Tommaso’s possible involvement, noting he was one of the last people to see Nancy. However, the Pima County Sheriff clarified during a press conference that no one has been ruled out or declared a prime suspect.
“Family members are often part of the investigation,” the Sheriff said, adding that ongoing searches at Annie and Tommaso’s residence are standard procedure. These investigations are part of the evidence-gathering process and follow-up on new leads, not a statement of guilt.
Authorities have emphasized that multiple searches at the couple’s home were necessary to ensure all angles are covered in the investigation.
New Leads in the Case
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that searches would continue on February 10 and 11, 2026. They stated that new leads have emerged, which have expanded the scope of the investigation.
A statement from the department read:
“Many of you observed an active presence at the Guthrie residences over the weekend. That activity will continue tonight and into tomorrow as part of the ongoing investigative process, including the expansion of the search and follow-up on new leads. This is all part of the investigative process, as the search for Nancy expands and new leads come in.”
Investigators have not revealed details about these new leads to maintain the integrity of the case.
Ransom Demand and Family Concerns
Savannah Guthrie previously confirmed that two ransom notes were received, demanding USD 6 million in Bitcoin. The family agreed to pay only after receiving proof that Nancy was safe.
Nancy’s fragile heart condition and need for daily medication have made the case more urgent. The family and authorities are working around the clock to ensure her safety.
The case continues to unfold, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.
