PAVE Scheme Launched – Get Up to Rs80,000 Off on Electric Vehicles

Pakistan is moving fast toward green transportation. The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has officially started the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme. The main goal of this program is to increase the number of electric vehicles on the roads and reduce the country’s fuel import bill.

EDB CEO Hamad Ali Mansoor said that the government is offering electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders under this scheme. These vehicles are being provided with big subsidies and easy instalment plans to make them affordable for the public.

Subsidy of Up to Rs80,000

Under the PAVE Scheme, buyers of electric bikes can get a subsidy of up to Rs80,000. This amount will be directly transferred to the approved bank accounts of applicants through the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The system is designed to ensure transparency and quick payments.

The government is also working with banks to provide leasing options. This will allow people to buy electric bikes and rickshaws through easy monthly instalments.

The government has set aside around Rs9 billion for the current year. By 2030, the total budget for the scheme is expected to cross Rs100 billion.

Two Phases of the Scheme

The scheme is being introduced in two phases.

In Phase 1, which is currently ongoing, 41,000 vehicles will be distributed. This includes 40,000 electric bikes and 1,000 electric rickshaws and loaders.

Phase 2 will be bigger and is expected to cover more than 78,000 vehicles, including electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders.

However, only those who follow the official application process will be eligible for the subsidy.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

The scheme mainly targets students, youth, and women to provide affordable transport options. It also aims to support the local electric vehicle industry.

By promoting electric vehicles, the government hopes to reduce fuel imports and lower pollution levels. The PAVE Scheme is an important step toward a cleaner and more sustainable transport system in Pakistan.
