Fire Breaks Out at Jinnah Hospital Emergency Ward, Triggers Panic
Karachi: Panic spread at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre after a fire broke out in the hospital’s emergency department, causing chaos and a brief stampede. Hospital authorities later confirmed that the fire was successfully brought under control.
According to hospital sources, the blaze erupted in the outer area at the rear of the emergency ward. Thick smoke quickly spread into the emergency unit, alarming patients, their attendants, and medical staff, which led to a rush inside the ward.
Hospital officials stated that the in-house firefighting system and staff responded promptly, preventing the fire from spreading further. They clarified that the fire occurred outside the main building; however, smoke pressure affected the emergency ward.
“All patients are safe, and there has been no loss of life,” officials said, adding that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident and to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
