PTI Founder Eye Examination Underway at Adiala Jail

Rawalpindi: A specialized eye examination of PTI founder Imran Khan is currently underway at Adiala Jail, conducted by a government-mandated medical board and supported by specialists from Holy Family Hospital. According to sources, an ambulance equipped with advanced ophthalmological diagnostic tools entered the prison through Gate No. 5 earlier today, while security around the facility has been significantly heightened to ensure a secure environment for the evaluation.
The superintendent of Adiala Jail confirmed that the medical team brought various specialized instruments and medications to perform a comprehensive assessment of the founder’s ocular health. This urgent evaluation follows a recent report submitted to the Supreme Court by amicus curiae Barrister Salman Safdar, which revealed that Imran Khan has lost approximately 85% of the vision in his right eye due to central retinal vein occlusion. The current examination will play a critical role in determining whether he requires an immediate transfer to a specialized facility, such as Al-Shifa Eye Hospital or Shifa International, for more intensive intervention.
The federal government is currently operating under a strict judicial mandate to submit a detailed report on the founder’s health and treatment to the Supreme Court before the February 16 deadline. This medical process is unfolding against a backdrop of intense political pressure, as the opposition alliance, Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP), continues its sit-in at Parliament House. The alliance has expressed grave concerns regarding medical negligence and has vowed to continue its protest until the founder is shifted to a hospital of his choice and treated by his personal physicians.
Yesterday, the government formally constituted the medical board, which includes top specialists from Al-Shifa Eye Hospital, to oversee the case and address the rising health concerns. The findings from today’s examination are expected to be compiled shortly to satisfy the court’s requirements and inform the next steps in Imran Khan’s medical care.
