Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping: How Investigators Cleared Tommaso Cioni and the Family

Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping case continues to attract significant attention. It has been over two weeks since the 84-year-old author went missing, and despite ongoing efforts, no arrests have been made. Authorities revealed that Nancy might have been abducted while she was asleep, and the search has been ongoing since February 1, 2026. The investigation involves both the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI, but no prime suspect has been identified yet.

A photo released by the FBI showed a masked man on Nancy’s porch, along with gloves and a backpack that have become key evidence. “A photo of the alleged suspect was released by the FBI, wherein a masked man could be seen on the porch of Nancy’s home.” The FBI also offered a USD 100,000 reward for information. Social media speculation suggested the suspect’s backpack, an Ozark Trail Hiker Backpack, and a gun holster could lead investigators to the kidnapper. Interestingly, a police officer noted that the holster was a basic USD 10 Walmart model, while the backpack was reportedly sold at a few Walmarts near Nancy’s residence.

Ransom notes demanded large sums for Nancy’s safe return. The first note requested USD 4 million in Bitcoin, with a February 5 deadline, followed by a second note demanding USD 6 million with a February 9 deadline. The Guthrie family stated they would pay but required proof that Nancy was safe.

Tommaso Cioni, Nancy’s son-in-law, drew public attention as he was the last person to see her before she went missing. “A journalist revealed that Tommaso could be a person of interest in this case.” However, Sheriff Chris Nanon confirmed that neither Tommaso nor the Guthrie family is involved, emphasizing that all family members are cooperating fully. Similarly, Dominic Evans, Tommaso’s former bandmate, was scrutinized due to his alleged resemblance to the masked suspect, but authorities have cleared him as well.
