Elana Meyers Taylor Clinches First Monobob Gold Medal — All About Her Husband Nic and Family

17 February, 2026 14:59

American bobsled star Elana Meyers Taylor etched her name into Olympic history with a landmark victory at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics on February 16, 2026. At 41, Meyers Taylor secured her first-ever Olympic gold medal by winning the women’s monobob event, marking the sixth Olympic medal of her career. With this achievement, she drew level with legendary speed skater Bonnie Blair for the most Winter Olympic medals won by an American woman.

Beyond the track, Meyers Taylor’s journey is closely intertwined with that of her husband, Nic Taylor, whose own career in bobsledding and sports performance has played a pivotal role in her sustained success.

Nic Taylor is a professional bobsledder, coach, and licensed chiropractor who has long been involved in U.S. bobsled programs. A former track athlete at Cal State Northridge, he transitioned to bobsled in 2011 and later served as an alternate for Team USA at both the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. In 2014, Nic and Elana made history by competing together in the first mixed-gender four-person bobsled team at an international event. Today, Nic works as a chiropractic doctor and strength and conditioning coach with the Sacramento Kings, while also designing and overseeing Elana’s training regimen.

The couple’s love story began unexpectedly in 2011, following a chance phone call to the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, a moment later detailed by USA Today. Elana, then interning at the federation, answered Nic’s call, and what began as a routine inquiry turned into an all-day conversation. They met in person days later at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid and began dating almost immediately.

Nic proposed to Elana in January 2013 in a memorable moment atop the medal podium at the World Championships in St. Moritz. The couple married on April 24, 2014, in a bobsled-themed ceremony attended by close friends, including fellow Olympian Kaillie Humphries.

In 2020, the couple welcomed their first son, Nicholas “Nico” Taylor, who was born prematurely and later diagnosed with Down syndrome and bilateral hearing loss. Their second son, Noah, born in 2022, was also born deaf due to an unrelated genetic mutation. Elana and Nic have since become vocal advocates for disability awareness, traveling with their children during the competitive season and using American Sign Language and cochlear implants to communicate as a family.

Following Noah’s birth, Meyers Taylor openly considered retiring from competitive bobsledding. However, with the continued support of her husband, she chose to return, culminating in her historic gold-medal win in 2026. Her triumph not only underscored her longevity in elite sport but also highlighted the vital role of family support behind one of the most inspiring Olympic victories in recent history.
