Iranian Supreme Leader Assigns Key Powers to Ali Larijani Amid US Tensions
Amid rising tensions with the United States, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has delegated significant powers to Ali Larijani, head of the National Security Council.
According to the New York Times, Larijani is also overseeing negotiations with the US, while Khamenei has appointed a successor structure spanning four levels.
In the event of war, Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf may be given command of the armed forces. Larijani is positioned at the top of the interim leadership plan, with Ghalibaf and former President Hassan Rouhani also considered for roles in transitional arrangements.
Reports indicate that missiles have been deployed along the Persian Gulf coasts, and President Ebrahim Raisi appears willing to transfer authority to Larijani.
This move reflects Tehran’s efforts to consolidate leadership and ensure continuity in decision-making amid escalating international tensions.
