25 February, 2026 16:07

ISLAMABAD: An important update has come regarding how many holidays people in Pakistan may get on Eid ul Fitr this year.

The holy month of Ramadan is ongoing, and Muslims across the country are eagerly waiting for Eid ul Fitr. The exact date of Eid depends on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. After the moon is sighted, the government officially announces the Eid holidays.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on the evening of March 19, 2026 (29th Ramadan) to sight the moon and announce its decision.

If Ramadan lasts 29 days, the first day of Shawwal will be on March 20, 2026. In that case, Eid ul Fitr will likely be celebrated from March 20 to March 22.

However, if Ramadan completes 30 days, Shawwal will begin on March 21, and Eid will be observed from March 21 to March 23.

The federal government has already issued the public holidays calendar for 2026. According to the schedule, Eid ul Fitr holidays are set for March 21, 22, and 23 (Saturday to Monday), depending on the moon sighting.

If the moon is sighted on March 19, then Eid holidays in Pakistan are expected to be from March 20 to March 22 (Friday to Sunday).
