26 February, 2026 10:03

February 26, 2026 — The Kuwait Municipality has announced strict enforcement of regulations governing temporary event tents during Ramadan 2026. Authorities warned that violations of licensing and safety rules will not be tolerated.

In an official statement, the municipality said it would take firm action against individuals who fail to meet the required legal and safety standards.

Regulation No. 935 of 2019 to Be Strictly Applied

According to Mohammed Sandan, Director of Public Relations and spokesperson for the municipality, all tent owners must comply with Regulation No. 935 of 2019. The regulation covers tents set up for social, religious events including Iftar gatherings, and sporting activities during Ramadan.

He said tents must be made from lightweight and fire-resistant materials. They should be easy to assemble and dismantle. Permanent construction materials are not allowed. The use of fixed kitchens or permanent service areas inside tents is strictly prohibited.

Application and Approval Process

Only Kuwaiti citizens of full legal capacity are eligible to apply for a Ramadan tent licence. Applications must be submitted in person or through a legal representative. The approved forms are available at the Road Occupancy Control Department of the Ministry of Interior.

Applicants must provide:

  • A contract with the implementing company

  • A copy of the company’s commercial licence

  • Civil identification documents

  • Signed authorisation papers

Approvals are also required from the Ministry of Interior, the General Fire Force, and other relevant authorities before a permit is issued.

Safety and Distance Requirements

Municipal regulations include strict spacing and safety rules. Temporary tents must be:

  • At least 200 meters apart from each other

  • 500 meters away from high-voltage power lines

  • 1 kilometer from gas stations

  • 2 kilometers from oil facilities, military installations, or landfill sites

Authorities have banned the construction of earthen barriers, blocking traffic, disturbing residents, or hosting activities that violate public morals.

Licence Fee and Deposit

Licences are issued only for their approved purpose. They cannot be rented out or used for commercial profit.

The fee for a Ramadan 2026 temporary tent licence is 500 Kuwaiti dinars, along with a refundable deposit of 500 dinars. Payments must be made through the KNET electronic payment system.

Officials said the goal of these measures is to ensure public safety, maintain order, and prevent fire hazards during the holy month.
