26 February, 2026 13:05

Islamabad, Pakistan – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for severe heat and heatwave conditions from March to September.

According to the NDMA, rising temperatures, glacier melting, and the risk of flooding are key concerns. The authority highlighted that glacier bursts in northern regions could pose serious threats to local populations. Specific areas in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Ahmadabad, Faizabad, Ghulmit, and the Ishkoman Valley, have been identified as at risk for potential flooding.

Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts such as Chitral, Rishun, Yarkhun Valley, and Burep have been warned about possible flood situations.

The NDMA has instructed the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), rescue organizations, and district administrations to remain on high alert. Authorities have been advised to prepare emergency evacuation plans and ensure that warning systems are fully operational.

The authority urged the public to follow local administration directives immediately in case of any danger and to avoid unnecessary travel.
