Poll Shows Only 25% of Americans Support Strikes on Iran
WASHINGTON, March 2, 2026 – A new Reuters / Ipsos poll suggests that only one in four Americans support the recent US-Israeli military strikes on Iran.
The survey was conducted from Saturday to Sunday, shortly after the operation began. The findings were finalized before the administration of President Donald Trump confirmed that the first US troops had been killed in the conflict.
Public Opinion Divided
According to the poll, just 25 percent of respondents approved of the strikes. Around 43 percent said they disapproved, while 29 percent remained unsure.
Support among Republicans was higher but still mixed. About 55 percent of Republican voters backed the action. However, 13 percent opposed it and 32 percent said they were undecided.
Among Democrats, opposition was strong. Around 74 percent disapproved of the strikes, with only 7 percent expressing support.
Concern Over US Casualties
The poll revealed a key concern among voters. Nearly 42 percent of Republicans said they would be less likely to support the operation if US troops were killed or injured in the Middle East.
Overall, 45 percent of respondents said rising gas or oil prices would reduce their support for the campaign. Energy markets have already reacted sharply to the regional conflict.
Political Impact Ahead of Midterms
The results could shape political debate in Washington as midterm elections approach in November. President Trump has described the military campaign as a “righteous mission” and vowed to continue until objectives are achieved.
However, critics argue the conflict risks dragging the US into another prolonged Middle East war. Some Democratic lawmakers are calling for a war powers resolution that would require congressional approval for further military action.
Senator Chris Van Hollen said the deaths of US service members highlight the human cost of the conflict. He urged Congress to act quickly.
Broader Regional Toll
Beyond US casualties, reports indicate significant losses across the region, including deaths in Iran, Israel, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait.
Analysts say public opinion may shift depending on how long the conflict continues and whether economic pressures increase at home. For now, the poll suggests that most Americans remain skeptical about deeper involvement in another Middle East war.
