31 Martyrs, 149 Wounded in Latest Israeli Strikes on Lebanon
Beirut, Monday, March 2, 2026: Lebanese authorities confirmed that 31 civilians were martyred and 149 others wounded after Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple areas across the country.
The Emergency Operations Center, affiliated with Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, said the figures are preliminary. Officials warned that the death toll could rise as rescue operations continue and hospitals finalize casualty reports.
Areas Targeted by Airstrikes
The strikes reportedly hit key regions in Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the Bekaa Valley. Southern suburbs of Beirut, including Haret Hreik and Al-Jamous, were heavily bombarded. Areas near Beirut International Airport were also affected.
In southern Lebanon, residential towns came under intense artillery shelling, while additional threats were issued for communities across the Bekaa Valley. Israeli warplanes were observed flying at low altitudes over northern and western Bekaa.
Escalation Amid Regional Tensions
The escalation follows the February 28 US-Israeli aggression on Iran, during which Iranian state television confirmed the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei and announced a 40-day mourning period.
Lebanese Islamic Resistance forces have responded by launching missile and drone operations targeting an Israeli air defense site south of Haifa. Officials emphasized that these actions are part of a defensive stance against repeated Israeli violations of previous ceasefire agreements.
Humanitarian Situation
Authorities continue search-and-rescue efforts, with hospitals overwhelmed by the number of casualties. Civilian areas remain at high risk amid the ongoing Israeli offensive, raising international concerns over civilian safety and human rights.
Lebanon’s health ministry has urged residents to stay in safe zones and avoid targeted areas while emergency services coordinate relief and medical assistance.
