Dubai Police have issued a stern warning that spreading rumours, false information, or sharing content that contradicts official announcements is a criminal offence. Offenders may face up to two years in prison and a minimum fine of 200,000 dirhams.
In a statement on Wednesday, the authorities urged the public to share only information released through official channels by the Government of Dubai. They emphasized that publishing or forwarding unverified content, especially material that could incite panic or fear, will be treated as a violation of the law.
“Your social media post may seem ordinary to you, but for others it could be intelligence,” officials warned, stressing the need for responsible online behavior.
Under the new regulations, violators face a minimum prison term of two years and fines starting at 200,000 dirhams (approximately Rs 15.2 million). The move reflects Dubai’s ongoing efforts to curb misinformation and maintain public order.
