Peace with Afghanistan Conditional on Taliban Ending Terror Support: Chief of Defence Forces

04 March, 2026 21:55

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Asim Munir has reiterated that lasting peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan depends on the Afghan Taliban regime severing ties with terrorist groups, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday.

During a visit to Wana in South Waziristan, the army chief reviewed the prevailing security situation and operational readiness along the western border.

Quoting COAS Munir, the ISPR stated: “Peace could only prevail between both sides if the Afghan Taliban renounced their support for terrorism and terrorist organisations.”

Field Marshal Munir received a detailed briefing on the overall security environment, ongoing intelligence-based operations, and border management measures. He was also updated on Operation Ghazab lil-Haq and the latest developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The army chief met officers and troops deployed in forward areas, praising their professionalism, vigilance, and high morale amid ongoing skirmishes. He commended their dedication to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and maintaining regional stability.

According to the ISPR, Munir stressed that the use of Afghan territory by Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan to carry out terrorist activities against Pakistan was unacceptable, adding that all necessary steps would be taken to eliminate threats originating from across the border.

He expressed confidence in the operational preparedness, coordination, and resilience of formations stationed along the frontier.

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument to honour the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defence of the country. He offered Fateha and reaffirmed that the sacrifices of Shuhada remain central to Pakistan’s security and strength.

Upon his arrival, the army chief was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar.
