Social Platform X to Penalize Creators for Unlabeled AI-Generated War Videos

05 March, 2026 21:16

Social media platform X has announced new measures targeting creators who share artificial intelligence-generated videos depicting armed conflict without proper disclosure, warning that violators may be suspended from the platform’s revenue-sharing programme, the company said.

In a post on its platform, X stated that stricter content labeling requirements will be enforced to help users distinguish between authentic footage and AI-generated media, particularly war-related videos that could mislead audiences or spread misinformation.

Under the new rules, content creators who post AI-generated videos of armed conflict without clear disclosure will face consequences, including temporary suspension from monetisation and revenue-sharing programmes. X added that it is updating enforcement tools to automatically detect and flag such content, aiming to improve transparency and reduce the spread of visual misinformation.

The company emphasized that the updated policy applies specifically to videos depicting armed conflict, war scenes, or military action. Creators must include an explicit disclosure tag if content is wholly or partially generated by AI. Failure to comply may lead to removal from revenue programmes and additional platform penalties.

“This move comes amid growing global concerns about deepfake and generative AI content being used to manipulate public perception,” the announcement said, noting the heightened risk in conflict zones where real footage is already difficult to verify.

X’s decision has received mixed reactions. Supporters argue it is necessary to curb deceptive media that could inflame tensions or misinform the public, while critics warn that enforcement could be challenging and may inadvertently block legitimate content or create confusion among creators.

The platform highlighted that linking content disclosure to monetisation eligibility is intended to incentivize responsible posting. The revenue-sharing programme is a significant source of income for many creators, and suspension from it could have financial impacts.

The policy aligns with broader industry trends requiring clear AI content labeling and follows similar guidance from other tech platforms, as well as regulatory proposals in Europe and North America, amid global debates about AI’s role in media, elections, and public perception.
