Iran UN envoy urges global action in face of US-Israeli aggressions against civilians

UN Experts Condemn US-Israel Attack on Iran, Call It Violation of International Law
March 6, 2026 – Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council to take urgent action to stop what it described as continuous military aggression by the United States and Israel. Iranian officials say the attacks have caused heavy damage to civilian areas and killed many innocent people across the country.
Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations sent a formal letter to the president of the Security Council. In the letter, the envoy explained that Iran has faced six days of intense air and missile strikes. According to Iranian authorities, these attacks have targeted civilian infrastructure and crowded public locations.
Officials say the death toll has now reached 1,332 civilians. The figures were released by the Iranian Red Crescent Society. The victims include many women and children.
Sports Facilities Among the Latest Targets
Iranian officials reported that several sports and recreational facilities were hit in the latest round of strikes. One of the most serious incidents happened in Lamerd city in Fars Province.
According to the report, a missile hit a sports hall during a training session. The strike killed more than 18 female volleyball players and injured nearly 100 other people who were present at the training.
Iranian authorities said some of the victims were professional athletes. Several were internationally recognized competitors and medal winners in sports such as wrestling, judo, and taekwondo.
Major Sports Sites Damaged in Tehran
Officials also said that important sports venues in the capital Tehran were damaged. Among them was the Azadi Stadium, which has a capacity of about 12,000 spectators. The Besat Sports Complex was also reported to have suffered heavy destruction.
Several municipal sports halls were hit as well. Iranian authorities said the National Judo Team Training Camp was also damaged during the attacks.
Iran claims that targeting recreational and sports facilities is a serious violation of international humanitarian law. Officials described the strikes as possible war crimes.
Earlier Attacks Targeted Schools and Hospitals
The Iranian envoy also described earlier attacks during the first days of the conflict.
According to the report, a girls’ elementary school in Minab city was destroyed on the first day of the strikes. Iranian authorities said more than 170 schoolgirls were killed in that attack.
Further air strikes were reported on the third day of the conflict. Iranian officials said several healthcare facilities were targeted. These included Motahhari Hospital and Khatam Hospital in Tehran, along with Abouzar Hospital in Ahvaz.
Emergency response centers were also reportedly damaged during the attacks.
Iran Calls for Global Condemnation
Iran has asked the international community to strongly condemn the attacks. The country has also called for investigations and accountability for what it describes as violations of international law.
At the same time, Iranian officials say the country has the right to defend itself. The Iranian envoy stated that the country will continue to exercise its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
Iran said it will take necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and national interests until the military attacks stop.
