Iran Challenges US to Send Warships Through Strait of Hormuz

07 March, 2026 09:03

TEHRAN, March 7, 2026: Tensions between Iran and the United States have risen again after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) openly challenged the American president over the security of oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials said that if Washington claims it can protect commercial ships in the strategic waterway, it should prove it by sending its naval vessels to escort them.

According to Iranian state media, an IRGC spokesperson said the United States should demonstrate its claims in practice.

The spokesperson said that if the US wants to show its power, it should send warships to the Strait of Hormuz and escort oil tankers through the area.

Iranian officials stressed that the country remains fully alert about its maritime borders and regional security.

They added that any attempt to pressure Iran would receive a strong response.

Iran’s military also clarified that the Strait of Hormuz is currently open and international shipping is continuing.

However, Iranian commanders warned that if any American or Israeli warship tries to increase tensions in the area, it could become a target.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important oil transit routes in the world. A large portion of global oil shipments passes through this narrow waterway.

The strong reaction from Iran came after recent remarks by Donald Trump, the president of the United States.

Trump said that the United States Navy could escort commercial vessels traveling through the Strait of Hormuz if needed.

According to him, American naval forces may accompany merchant ships to protect them from possible threats.

He also mentioned that US financial institutions could help resolve insurance issues faced by oil tanker operators due to rising tensions in the region.

Analysts believe the latest exchange of statements shows increasing geopolitical tension in the Gulf region.

Iran maintains that it is capable of protecting its waters and ensuring the safety of shipping routes, while warning foreign powers not to escalate the situation.
