Pakistan Raises Afghanistan Terror Safe Havens at UN

10 March, 2026 01:45

Addressing the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar stated that terrorist groups continue to maintain safe havens within Afghanistan. He specifically identified the TTP, BLA, and other militant organizations as having secure bases across the border, noting that these groups are increasingly launching suicide attacks within Afghan cities that result in the martyrdom of innocent civilians.

Despite these challenges, Iftikhar emphasized that Pakistan, as a neighbor, should persist in its dialogue with the Taliban. He reiterated that Pakistan’s primary objective is a safe and peaceful Afghanistan, recalling his own visit to Kabul last year for negotiations. He also acknowledged the role of the international community in facilitating these talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban.

During those discussions, the Afghan Taliban were presented with three specific demands, primarily focused on counter-terrorism efforts. The Permanent Representative concluded by warning that the current situation in Afghanistan has evolved into a threat not only to the immediate region but to global security as well.
