Flights Suspended at Dubai Airport After Suspected Drone Strike

Monday, March 16, 2026: Flight operations at Dubai International Airport were temporarily suspended after a suspected drone strike caused a fire near a fuel storage facility close to the airport terminal in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Authorities briefly halted departures and arrivals as a safety precaution while emergency teams responded to the incident. Airport officials said several incoming flights were redirected to Al Maktoum International Airport while the situation was being assessed.

According to officials, flight services were paused to ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff, and airline crews. Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene to control the fire and secure the affected area.

Authorities also began investigating the cause of the incident after reports suggested that a drone strike may have triggered the fire at the nearby fuel facility.

Passengers scheduled to travel through Dubai airport were advised to check with their airlines for updates about delays or changes to their flights.

Several international flights approaching Dubai were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport, which serves as the second major aviation hub in the emirate.

Officials said this step helped prevent congestion and allowed emergency teams to work safely near the affected area.

Airport authorities later stated that services would resume once safety checks were completed.

Videos shared on social media showed large flames rising from the area near the airport along with thick black smoke.

Emergency vehicles and fire crews were seen responding quickly to the blaze.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the full extent of the damage, but officials said the fire was brought under control shortly after the incident.

The suspected drone attack comes at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East.

Security analysts say the incident follows recent warnings from Tehran regarding potential actions in the region.

Iranian officials had earlier warned about possible retaliation related to claims that United States operations were being supported through ports in the United Arab Emirates.

However, these allegations have not been publicly supported with evidence.

Authorities in the UAE have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether a drone attack was responsible.

Officials said further updates will be provided once the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile, passengers and airlines continue to monitor flight schedules as operations gradually return to normal.
