Saudi Arabia Announces Eid al-Fitr on March 20, 2026 After Moon Not Sighted

18 March, 2026 20:43

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have officially announced that the Shawwal moon has not been sighted, confirming that Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Friday, March 20, 2026.

According to official statements, moon sighting committees across the Kingdom reported no confirmed sightings of the crescent moon on the expected date. As a result, the ongoing month of Ramadan will complete its full duration of 30 days.

Officials stated that due to the absence of moon sighting anywhere in the country, the following day will mark the final fast of Ramadan. Consequently, celebrations for Eid al-Fitr will commence the day after, marking the end of the holy fasting period.

The announcement aligns with traditional Islamic practices, where the sighting of the moon determines the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid festivities. Muslims across Saudi Arabia and several other countries following its moon sighting authority are expected to celebrate Eid on March 20.
