Reports Say Trump Open to Iran Sanctions Relief as Nuclear Talks Continue

Reports that the United States could ease sanctions on Iran and restore access to frozen Iranian assets have emerged as diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran continue over the nuclear issue and regional tensions.

U.S. media outlets Axios and CNN, citing unnamed American officials, reported that the Trump administration could consider economic relief for Iran in return for concrete progress on its nuclear programme.

According to the officials cited in those reports, the United States has been engaging with Iran through intermediaries in an effort to keep diplomatic channels open and explore possible ways to reduce tensions.

However, the same reports indicated that Washington would not agree to a broader arrangement without meaningful progress on the nuclear issue.

The reports emerged as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was scheduled to meet Qatari mediators in New York. The discussions were expected to focus on Iran’s latest proposals concerning a possible ceasefire and measures to reduce the ongoing confrontation.

Following their meeting with Araghchi, the Qatari mediators were also expected to hold discussions with U.S. officials in New York and brief them on the Iranian position.

According to the material provided, the talks could also include a revised version of a seven-day proposal previously presented by Iran.

Details about which U.S. officials would represent Washington in the discussions were not immediately available.

The diplomatic activity comes after Trump rejected an Iranian proposal concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a ceasefire, describing the conditions as unacceptable.
