Iran rejects US proposal, war will end only on its conditions

25 March, 2026 19:32

Iran has responded negatively to an American proposal aimed at ending the ongoing imposed war, saying it will only end on Tehran’s own terms and timeline, a senior political-security official told Press TV on Wednesday.

The official, speaking exclusively to Press TV, said that Iran will not allow US President Donald Trump to dictate the timing of the war’s end.

“Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met,” the official said, emphasizing Tehran’s determination to continue its defense and inflict “heavy blows” on the enemy until all demands are fulfilled.

According to the official, Washington has been pursuing negotiations through various diplomatic channels, offering proposals that Tehran views as “excessive” and disconnected from the reality of America’s failure on the battlefield.

The official compared the current situation with two previous rounds of negotiations in the spring and winter of 2025, describing them as deceptive. In both cases, he said, the United States had no genuine intention to engage in meaningful dialogue and later carried out military aggression against Iran.

Tehran has therefore described the latest proposal, delivered through a friendly regional intermediary, as a ploy to heighten tensions and has responded negatively.

Iran’s Conditions for Ending the War

The official outlined five specific conditions under which Iran would agree to end the war:

  • A complete halt to “aggression and assassinations” by the enemy.
  • The establishment of mechanisms to ensure the war is not reimposed on Iran.
  • Guaranteed payment of war damages and reparations.
  • The conclusion of the war across all fronts and for all resistance groups in the region.
  • Recognition that Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz is a natural and legal right and a guarantee for the implementation of other commitments.

The official added that these demands are in addition to conditions presented during the second round of negotiations in Geneva, held just days before the US and Israel carried out a fresh attack on February 28.

Iran has communicated to all intermediaries that a ceasefire is contingent upon the acceptance of all its conditions. “No negotiations will be held prior to that,” the official stressed, reaffirming that Iran’s defensive operations will continue until its demands are met.

“The end of the war will occur when Iran decides it should end, not when Trump envisions its conclusion,” he added.

Background of the Conflict

The unprovoked and illegal war began on February 28, during indirect nuclear talks, with the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with top-ranking military commanders and officials.

In response, Iranian armed forces have carried out nearly 80 waves of retaliatory strikes, targeting American and Israeli military assets across the region.

Recently, the United States has approached some regional countries, asking Iran to stop retaliatory strikes that have severely damaged American and Israeli military infrastructure and allow American vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite external pressure, Iran remains firm, insisting that any end to the war will occur only when all its conditions are met.
