Nicolas Maduro Breaks Silence from US Prison, Thanks Supporters in First Social Media Message
Ousted Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro has issued his first public message since being detained in the United States, expressing gratitude to supporters and describing his condition as stable.
Maduro, along with his wife Cilia Flores, has been held in a federal detention facility in Brooklyn for nearly three months following their capture by U.S. forces during a January operation in Caracas.
In a message shared on social media, the couple stated, “We are well, steadfast, serene and in constant prayer,” while thanking supporters for their continued communication and encouragement. They added, “We have received your communications, your messages, your emails, your letters and your prayers. Every word of love, every gesture of affection, every expression of support fills our souls and strengthens us spiritually.”
Reports indicate that Maduro has had limited access to outside communication, with restrictions allowing only brief phone calls with family members and legal representatives. According to sources, he spends time reading religious texts and maintaining his routine while in custody.
Maduro has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges filed in the United States, including allegations related to narcotics trafficking and weapons offenses. He has described himself as a “prisoner of war” and had remained publicly silent since his court appearance earlier this year.
Meanwhile, his son Nicolas Maduro Guerra has stated that his father remains calm and in good health, even maintaining physical activity during detention.
Following Maduro’s removal from power, Venezuela has undergone significant political changes under the leadership of Delcy Rodriguez, who has introduced reforms and taken steps toward stabilizing the country’s economy and international relations.
The developments mark a significant moment in Venezuela’s ongoing political transition, while also highlighting evolving diplomatic relations between the United States and the South American nation.
