Karachi Weather Update: Rain Expected Today

06 April, 2026 10:52

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather update predicting light to moderate rain and windstorms in Karachi on April 6, 2026, following a week of record rainfall in the city.

According to the forecast, several districts across Sindh, including Sukkur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Kambar Shahdadkot, are expected to experience scattered rain, thunderstorms, and occasional heavy downpours or hailstorms.

The PMD further stated that Karachi, along with areas such as Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, and Mirpurkhas, may receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms during the day.

In Punjab and Islamabad, widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast from the evening of April 6 through April 9, with occasional heavy falls expected in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Sialkot.

Authorities have also warned of possible heavy rainfall and hailstorms in the Pothohar region and upper districts on April 7 and 8, raising concerns about infrastructure damage.

The weather system may trigger landslides in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, while flash floods are expected in parts of Balochistan and northern regions.

Urban flooding risks have been highlighted for major cities such as Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala due to intense rainfall.

Officials cautioned that strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning could damage weak structures, including electric poles and billboards, and may also affect standing crops across Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions during the forecast period.
