‘American Idol’: Who Is Jake Thistle? Meet the Eliminated Contestant and His Family

Jake Thistle, a rising singer-songwriter from Paramus, New Jersey, was eliminated from American Idol Season 24 Top 14 on April 6, 2026, following the Judges’ Song Contest night. The 22-year-old Rutgers graduate gained national recognition for his raspy, soulful vocals and folk-driven indie rock, earning comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams.

During his time on American Idol, Jake impressed judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood with performances of Can’t Find My Way Home (Blind Faith), The Power of Love (Huey Lewis & The News), and his original song Sleep On Me. The young artist also released his latest album Sleep On Me in February 2026, along with previous projects including the LP Down the Line (2020) and EP The Half Left Out (2023). Before joining the show, Jake was a regular performer in Asbury Park, playing at the historic Stone Pony.

Jake’s passion for music began at age three after watching Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers perform at the 2008 Super Bowl Halftime Show. Jake’s family has been integral to his music career. His mother, Jill Thistle, an English teacher, and his father, Greg Thistle, a communications manager, supported him by driving him to performances and attending his shows. They were present in the audience during his Top 14 performance on American Idol. Jake has also spoken fondly of his late grandfather, who encouraged his musical pursuits and requested he learn a specific song as one of his last wishes.

Despite his elimination, Jake Thistle has left a lasting impression on American Idol fans, and his journey continues to inspire aspiring musicians nationwide.
