Russia calls for responsible approach ahead of US-Iran talks in Islamabad

MOSCOW: Russia has urged all parties involved in the upcoming US-Iran talks in Pakistan to act responsibly and avoid any steps that could harm the negotiations.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the talks scheduled in Islamabad offer an important chance to reduce tensions in the Gulf region.

It said the process should be protected and supported. The ministry stressed, “We call on all participants in the talks in Pakistan to act responsibly and refrain from any actions that could jeopardise this opportunity,”.

Russia added that most countries support diplomatic efforts and hope for progress between the United States and Iran, with Pakistan playing a facilitating role.

However, Moscow warned that some parties may be trying to block peace efforts and create obstacles to progress.

The ministry also said that the root causes of the regional conflict must be addressed. It called for an end to what it described as the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel, and also urged a ceasefire in Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East.

Russia further stated that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz had been stable earlier and warned against misrepresenting events related to disruptions in shipping routes.

It said disputes in the region should be solved through diplomacy and political dialogue, and supported a broader Gulf security framework involving Iran and Arab states.

Moscow said a “window of opportunity” now exists for peace, but success will depend on restraint and cooperation from all sides.
