General Elections in Gilgit-Baltistan Set for June 7
After a four-month wait, the GB Election Commission declared on Saturday that general elections in Gilgit Baltistan will take place on June 7.
The assembly’s general elections were set for January 24, 2026. However, severe weather in the area caused the polls to be postponed indefinitely a few days after the announcement.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly general elections will take place on June 7, according to a notification from the GB Election Commission Secretariat that Dawn has access to.
The development was also confirmed by Raja Shahbaz Khan, the Chief Election Commissioner for GB. Khan stated that a schedule for the local government election will be released later and that it will take place following the national election.
Preparations were ready for both, he continued.
After a 20-year hiatus, LG polls in Great Britain were first scheduled for February 14, 2026.
The chief election commissioner for Great Britain stated earlier this month that the electoral body was getting ready to hold the elections but had not yet chosen a date.
Due to the severe weather, which kept several areas isolated from one another due to significant snowfall, fourteen political groups had opposed conducting elections in January or February.
