Pakistani Delegation Led by Field Marshal Asim Munir Arrives in Iran for High-Level Talks
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Iran as part of a high-level diplomatic delegation amid ongoing efforts to revive stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States.
According to a report by Al Jazeera, the delegation led by Pakistan’s top military leadership is engaged in sensitive backchannel diplomacy aimed at facilitating renewed dialogue between the two nations.
The Pakistani team is reportedly playing a key mediating role, assisting in the exchange of messages between Tehran and Washington and supporting efforts to organize a potential second round of talks, which may take place in Islamabad in the coming days.
Iranian state media reports suggest that discussions involve follow-ups from earlier negotiations held in Pakistan, where major issues such as cessation of hostilities, recognition of Iran’s rights, lifting of sanctions, and compensation for wartime damages were raised.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that these topics remain central to ongoing diplomatic efforts, highlighting the sensitivity and complexity of the negotiations.
The visit underscores Pakistan’s growing role in regional diplomacy, positioning it as a key facilitator in efforts to de-escalate one of the most complicated geopolitical tensions in the region.
