Bushra Bibi Shifted to Hospital from Jail, PTI Confirms

17 April, 2026 12:00

Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, was shifted to a hospital from prison last night, according to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Barrister Gohar said the party had received information about her transfer to a medical facility. He added that the move took place during the night and further details were awaited.

He also called for immediate access for the families of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. He urged authorities to allow family members to meet them and stressed that medical care and family visits are basic legal rights.

Barrister Gohar said he was informed through a message late at night that Bushra Bibi had been admitted to a hospital. He added that he was expecting a detailed briefing on her medical condition and treatment.

Imran Khan, 73, has been imprisoned at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since August 2023 in multiple cases. The PTI has repeatedly raised concerns about his health and access to medical care.

According to court submissions by his legal team, including lawyer Salman Safdar, Imran Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a condition that can lead to vision loss due to blockage of the retinal vein.

Medical reports suggest he has lost a significant portion of vision in one eye and has undergone multiple eye procedures at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), including anti-VEGF injections to reduce swelling.

Doctors have previously stated that he remains medically stable following examinations and treatments. A five-member medical board has also assessed his condition at Adiala Jail under court instructions.

Authorities have also restricted meetings with the former prime minister since December 2025, according to official statements. Meanwhile, PTI has continued to demand better access to medical facilities and family visits for both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The development comes amid ongoing political tensions, as the issue of access to the incarcerated former prime minister remains a key point of dispute between PTI and the government.
