Iran Deal Could Be Signed “Today” in Pakistan: Donald Trump

20 April, 2026 19:22

Donald Trump has stated that a potential agreement with Iran could be finalized “today” in Pakistan, as diplomatic efforts intensify.

In interviews with Fox News and the New York Post, Trump revealed that a high-level U.S. delegation—including JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner—was already en route to Islamabad for talks.

Confirming their departure, Trump said, “We’re supposed to have the talks. So I would assume at this point nobody’s playing games,” adding, “They’re heading over now. They’ll be there tonight, Islamabad time.” He further told Fox News that the deal would be signed “today” in Pakistan.

Despite these claims, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has indicated that “no decision” has yet been made regarding participation in the discussions, highlighting ongoing uncertainty around the negotiations.

Trump also expressed openness to direct engagement with Iranian leadership, stating, “I have no problem meeting them. If they want to meet, and we have some very capable people, but I have no problem meeting them.”

Reiterating his stance, he emphasized, “Get rid of their nuclear weapons. That’s all very simple. There will be no nuclear weapons.” He added that Iran has the potential to thrive under different circumstances, calling it “a wonderful country.”

When asked about the leadership in Iran, Trump said the U.S. believes it is engaging with the appropriate representatives. He declined to elaborate on potential consequences if talks fail, warning only that “it wouldn’t be pretty.”

Meanwhile, global oil markets reacted to rising tensions, with Brent crude prices climbing to around $94 per barrel following the seizure of an Iranian vessel.
