Heatwave and severe heat forecast across Pakistan
A heatwave alert has been issued across the country as the Pakistan Meteorological Department warned of a sharp rise in temperatures.
According to the department, temperatures are expected to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal. Southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan are likely to be the most affected regions.
Officials said the intense heat wave is expected to continue from the end of April into the start of May. Even coastal areas, including Karachi, may also experience rising temperatures.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight and follow safety precautions. Special care has been recommended for children, elderly people, and patients.
The public has been urged to drink plenty of water and take necessary steps to avoid heatstroke. People working in open areas have been asked to take extra safety measures.
Due to western weather systems, dust-laden winds may also affect some regions. However, the heatwave is expected to persist until the first week of May.
Authorities have been instructed to remain alert and take advance measures to deal with the situation.
