US opening new front after 'Humiliating Failure,' says Iran’s Supreme Leader
The Iranian leadership says the United States is trying to open a new front in the region after what it described as a “failed and humiliating outcome” in recent tensions. Tehran has also said it will ensure the security of the Gulf region.
In a statement, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said a “new chapter” has begun in the Strait of Hormuz. He blamed the United States for instability in the region and said Iran would take responsibility for maintaining security in the Gulf.
He added that the Gulf of Persia and the Strait of Hormuz are entering a new phase, and accused Washington of escalating tensions after what he called a serious setback.
On the other hand, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the Strait of Hormuz is part of Iran’s national identity and a symbol of resistance against hostile forces. He also said that any naval blockade by the United States would fail.
Pezeshkian stated that sanctions or blockades are against international law and no country should pressure others in international waters. He claimed that Iran’s opponents have changed their strategy regarding maritime routes to increase economic pressure on the country.
He further said that any U.S. action causing instability in the region would harm regional peace and would not improve security. He also blamed both the United States and Israel for ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
