Trump’s Qatar-Gifted Air Force One Nears Service After $400M Security Overhaul and Controversy

A Boeing 747 gifted to U.S. President Donald Trump by Qatar is nearing entry into service as a temporary Air Force One, following a major $400 million overhaul. The aircraft, originally valued at approximately $400 million, was presented to Trump during his official visit to Qatar last year.

The U.S. Air Force confirmed in a Friday statement, “We have officially completed modification and flight testing,” noting that the aircraft is currently undergoing final painting ahead of its scheduled rollout in a red, white, and blue presidential livery this summer.

The jet has undergone extensive modifications to meet presidential security requirements. Officials stated that the aircraft was partially deconstructed to ensure the removal of any potential surveillance or spy equipment and to install secure, top-secret communication systems required for presidential use.

General Dale White, who is overseeing the project, said, “By and large, the airplane we are getting is in the same condition from an interior perspective.” He also emphasized that U.S. presidential aircraft standards differ significantly from those used by other countries for heads of state.

The project has sparked political and legal controversy in the United States, with critics questioning the acceptance of a foreign-gifted aircraft. Concerns have been raised regarding national security risks and constitutional restrictions on accepting gifts from foreign governments.

Despite the debate, the aircraft is expected to serve as a temporary presidential transport once fully operational, marking one of the most unusual upgrades in the history of the presidential aviation fleet.
