Qalibaf Warns Strait of Hormuz Situation ‘Unbearable’ for US

05 May, 2026 15:10

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has stated that the ongoing situation in the Strait of Hormuz is becoming increasingly difficult for the United States, warning that Iran has “not even started yet” in terms of its response.

“The security of shipping and energy transit has been endangered by the United States and its allies through the violation of the ceasefire and the imposition of a blockade,” Qalibaf wrote in a post on X.

He further added, “We know very well that the continuation of the current situation is unbearable for the United States, while we haven’t even started yet.”

According to Qalibaf, a “new equation” is emerging in the strategic waterway, where Iran is asserting its influence and monitoring developments closely. He suggested that ongoing pressure on the United States is mounting as the situation evolves.

The remarks come amid rising tensions in the Persian Gulf, where US military activity has increased and Iran has taken a firm stance on protecting its maritime interests.

Iranian forces, particularly the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), have maintained strong control over the Strait of Hormuz, conducting regular missile and drone exercises to demonstrate their readiness and advanced asymmetric capabilities.

Reports indicate that no commercial vessels have recently transited the strait, as Iran enforces strict oversight of the critical energy shipping route.

Earlier, the Iranian Navy launched missiles and deployed drones as a warning to US warships approaching the area after repeated cautions were ignored. Officials described the action as necessary to defend Iran’s sovereign waters.

Qalibaf’s statements highlight the escalating geopolitical tensions in one of the world’s most vital energy corridors, with both sides maintaining heightened military readiness.
