Iran Announces Full Maritime Support Services for Commercial Vessels in Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) has announced that it is fully prepared to provide maritime services, technical assistance, and medical support to commercial vessels operating in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and surrounding regional waters.
In an official message sent to commercial vessel commanders on Thursday, the maritime authority stated that the initiative aims to strengthen maritime safety, improve navigation conditions, and ensure the welfare of seafarers operating in the region.
The announcement was broadcast through maritime communication networks and VHF systems and is intended for all commercial ships passing through the area.
According to the PMO, vessels may access essential services such as fuel, provisions, and medical assistance while navigating Iranian territorial waters and designated anchorages if support is required.
The organization emphasized that the initiative reflects Iran’s sovereign responsibilities and is designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of maritime traffic in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
It also confirmed that the message will be repeated three times daily for three consecutive days via regional maritime communication systems.
Ship captains have been instructed to contact Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) centers at nearby Iranian ports or communicate through local representatives on VHF channel 16 to request services or report specific needs.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20 percent of global oil shipments normally pass, has faced major disruptions following regional tensions and military developments in recent months.
Iran has previously tightened control over the waterway following what it described as hostile actions and a naval blockade imposed by external forces. These restrictions have contributed to increased volatility in global energy markets.
