Iran Begins Reconstruction of B1 Bridge in Karaj After US-Israeli Airstrikes Damage Infrastructure
Iran has officially begun reconstruction work on the B1 Bridge in the city of Karaj, west of Tehran, after it was heavily damaged during what Iranian officials describe as an illegal US-Israeli military aggression.
According to Hooshang Bazvand, CEO of the Construction and Transport Development Company, the first phase of the project involves clearing debris from the site, and this stage is expected to be completed within one week.
He added that the full reconstruction of the bridge is projected to take less than a year, with all contractors involved being Iranian nationals, emphasizing domestic capacity in rebuilding critical infrastructure.
The B1 Bridge is a major engineering structure standing 136 meters high and stretching 1,050 meters across the Bilaqan River in Karaj, and is considered one of Iran’s significant modern infrastructure projects.
The bridge was reportedly struck three times on April 2 during US-Israeli airstrikes, causing severe structural damage. The attack resulted in 13 deaths and left more than 150 people injured, according to local reports.
The structure had originally been scheduled for inauguration earlier this year before the damage occurred.
The incident was widely condemned by Iranian officials. At the time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that attacks on civilian infrastructure, including unfinished bridges, would not weaken Iran’s resolve. He described the strikes as evidence of “the aggressor regimes’ defeat and moral bankruptcy.”
Reports also indicate that the strikes were acknowledged publicly by US President Donald Trump in a social media statement, further intensifying diplomatic tensions.
Iran has since reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding damaged infrastructure and maintaining national resilience despite external pressure.
