Iran has made a major breakthrough in the medical field through nuclear technology, developing a comprehensive system for diagnosing hereditary and metabolic diseases in newborns, saving millions of lives.

Iran has surprised the world in the medical field by giving a new dimension to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Iranian scientists have developed a system with the help of modern nuclear technology, under which every child born in the country is screened for dozens of metabolic diseases immediately after birth.

This feat puts Iran among the few countries in the world in this field that have successfully mastered this complex skill.

These screening kits have been developed by Iranian researchers themselves. The program has been ongoing for the past 20 years, starting with just three diseases, but now includes the diagnosis of amino acids, organic acidemia and other complex medical problems.

The system uses up to sixty percent enriched uranium, which is converted for medical purposes through radiation at the Tehran Research Reactor.

Iran is currently producing about sixty-nine diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, which benefit more than one million patients annually.

This medical development of Iran is also being recognized internationally, and in June 2025, Iran also presented Cuba with a gift of modern nuclear medicine kits.

This breakthrough is proof of how nuclear science can be used responsibly to save human lives.

Iran’s move has emerged as a global example of the peaceful and humanitarian use of nuclear energy.
