Dhu al-Hijjah Moon Sighting: CRHC Meeting Scheduled for Today
Karachi: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) is holding its meeting today to decide about the sighting of the Dhu al-Hijjah moon.
The central Ruet-Hilal Committee has officially called by The Ministry of Religious Affairs for moon sighting for Hijri Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 Hijri. In Karachi, at Pakistan Meteorological Department, on Dhu al-Qi’dah, 17 May, the session will take place, in the presence of the committee heads Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.
In Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, and Peshawar, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also meet to evaluate reports of the moon sighting, alongside the main meeting in Karachi. A formal notification outlining these arrangements has also shared by the Ministry.
On Wednesday, 27 May, Eid-ul-Adha will be observed if the moon is sighted on today 17 May. Eid will take place on Thursday, 28 May, in case the moon is not visible today.
On 17 May 2026 at 1:01 AM PST, the new moon is expected to be born, the moon will be nearly 18 hours and 30 minutes old on the same day, by sunset, making spotting settings possible advantageous, particularly in areas along the coast where sunset and moonset are separated by roughly 60 minutes, as per to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) information
SUPARCO has also indicated that the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah is likely to begin on 18 May 2026, but the final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing all credible sightings and evidence from across the country.
