X introduces new posting limits for non-paying users

20 May, 2026 17:49

X (formerly Twitter) has introduced new restrictions on how many posts non-paying users can make each day. The platform says the move is part of its effort to reduce spam, bot activity, and system pressure.

Under the new rules, unverified users can now make up to 50 original posts and 200 replies per day. This is a major drop compared to earlier limits, which allowed thousands of posts daily.

The company said the changes are designed to improve platform performance and reduce server load, especially during busy hours when traffic is high.

Some limits, however, remain the same. Users can still send up to 500 direct messages per day and follow up to 400 accounts daily.

X has also been working on reducing low-quality content, such as repetitive posts and spam-like updates. The platform has previously taken steps to limit unnecessary posts and improve content quality in trending topics.

The new restrictions have received mixed reactions. Some users believe it affects free speech, while others say it will help reduce spam and improve the overall experience.

Users who want higher limits can upgrade to X Premium, which offers benefits like verification badges, longer posts, video uploads, fewer ads, and access to features like Grok AI.

The company says these changes are meant to keep the platform stable and ensure a better experience for active users.
