Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Iranian FM Araghchi in Tehran to Discuss Regional Peace
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir has held a significant diplomatic meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, focusing on efforts to prevent further regional escalation and promote lasting peace and stability across West Asia.
The meeting was confirmed through the official channels of the Iranian government. It follows Field Marshal Munir’s arrival in Tehran a day earlier as part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic and mediation initiative centered on conflict resolution and regional security. Upon his arrival, he was formally received by Eskandar Momeni in an official reception ceremony, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also present.
Two private aircraft departed from Islamabad and are believed to have traveled to Tehran as part of the delegation. The first, identified as GA6C, is a Gulfstream G600 historically associated with Field Marshal Munir’s official travel. The second, GL5T, is a Bombardier Global 5000. While subscriber reports have circulated regarding the identities of individuals believed to be onboard, no official confirmation of the passenger list has been publicly issued.
Pakistan’s intensified diplomatic engagement comes against the backdrop of its stated commitment to supporting conflict resolution efforts in the region, particularly after the United Nations and the UN Security Council were unable to produce outcomes that Islamabad considered effective or decisive. Saudi Arabia has reportedly voiced strong backing for Pakistan’s mediation initiative, viewing it as a meaningful effort to safeguard regional peace and prevent further deterioration of the security situation.
Pakistan is playing an increasingly central role in the emerging US-Iran diplomatic process being coordinated through Tehran. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s discussions with Foreign Minister Araghchi are understood to be focused on constructing a viable negotiation framework and advancing a draft agreement between Washington and Tehran. Reports from Al Arabiya indicate that Field Marshal Munir has been closely monitoring developments and may travel personally to Tehran if the proposed agreement reaches its final drafting stage — a sign of Islamabad’s deepening behind-the-scenes involvement in the process.
Naqvi’s visit is specifically aimed at achieving consensus on the structure of negotiations and establishing the mechanisms through which future rounds of talks would proceed. Simultaneously, Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed that Iran-US negotiations are expected to feature prominently in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming state visit to China, further underscoring the regional and global dimensions of Pakistan’s diplomatic push.
