CM Maryam Nawaz Warns Against Political Pressure in Momina Iqbal Harassment Case

23 May, 2026 11:12

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued a strong and direct warning in connection with the harassment case involving actor Momina Iqbal and PML-N Member of Provincial Assembly Saqib Chadhar, making clear that any attempt to use political leverage, abuse influence, or threaten a woman with the release of personal content will be met with decisive and unsparing legal action.

In a social media post published on Friday evening, CM Maryam described the matter as a personal issue that would be handled strictly on merit and fully in accordance with the law. She emphasized that no individual — regardless of their status, position, or political connections — stands above the law, and that state institutions would carry out their responsibilities independently, impartially, and in full compliance with the Constitution.

“Any attempt to exert political pressure, abuse influence, or exploit a woman through threats of releasing personal content publicly will be met with firm and uncompromising action,” the Chief Minister stated, calling it a clear and serious warning to all those involved.

The case came to public attention after Momina Iqbal took to social media, tagging the PML-N leadership directly, and alleged that she had been subjected to prolonged online harassment, cyberbullying, and death threats. Both Momina and Saqib Chadhar appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency on Thursday to record their formal statements.

Speaking to reporters on the same day, Momina’s sister and legal representative, Advocate Rimsha Iqbal, revealed that deliberate attempts were being made to obstruct Momina’s upcoming marriage, scheduled for next month, and that threats had even been directed at her fiancé. Rimsha confirmed that evidence supporting Momina’s allegations against the MPA had been formally submitted to the NCCIA, and expressed confidence that her sister would ultimately receive justice.
