US Military Will Remain in Region Until Iran Deal Is Reached-Says Official
US official has said that US forces deployed in recent months will remain in the region until a final agreement is reached.
According to media reports, the US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the US and Iran are close to an agreement to extend the 60-day ceasefire, while the possible agreement will reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
He further noted that Iran might be allowed free oil sales. with nuclear program negotiations also scheduled during the ceasefire phase.
He added that the agreement could further intensify the war and reduce pressure on global oil supplies. It is still unclear whether the possible agreement will take the form of a permanent peace agreement.
The official said that US forces deployed in recent months will remain in the region until a final agreement is reached. The draft of the proposed agreement also includes a clause that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons.
