CTD Arrests Two SRA Terrorists Linked to Attack on Chinese Nationals in Karachi
Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department has claimed to have disrupted a major terrorist plot in Karachi on Eid al-Adha, announcing the arrest of two alleged operatives of the banned Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army during a joint operation conducted alongside a federal law enforcement agency on Hub River Road.
The first suspect, identified as Allah Dino, was reportedly dispatched to Karachi on direct instructions from the banned outfit to carry out terrorist activities during the Eid celebrations. Acting on a tip-off, CTD officials intercepted him at a bus terminal in Yousuf Goth on Hub River Road, where he had arrived travelling by bus from Gwadar. Authorities recovered 10 rolls of explosive material, two non-electric detonators, and eight metres of safety fuses from his possession — indicating a planned large-scale attack had been averted.
The second suspect, identified as Faraz Ahmed Somro, also known by the alias Toto, was also apprehended during the same operation. CTD officials confirmed he had been evading arrest in connection with a terrorism case previously registered by the department in Karachi. According to the CTD spokesperson, Faraz and his accomplices were allegedly involved in a deadly attack on Chinese nationals at a dental clinic in the Saddar area of Karachi. The attack resulted in the death of Ronald Raymond Pow, while Dr Richard Pow and another individual identified as Finn Nine sustained injuries. A 30-bore pistol along with ammunition was recovered from Faraz at the time of his arrest.
CTD officials stated that several of Faraz’s accomplices had already been taken into custody prior to this operation, while he himself had gone into hiding to avoid arrest. Special teams have now been formed to track down and apprehend the remaining accomplices and target killers believed to be connected to the network.
The Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army was officially banned by Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior in 2020 under the Anti-Terrorism Act, along with the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-Aresar Group and the Sindhu Desh Liberation Army.
