Dadu Hits 51.5°C — Sindh's Highest Temperature This Season
Pakistan is in the grip of a severe heatwave, with temperatures climbing to dangerous levels across multiple regions. Sindh has emerged as one of the hardest-hit provinces, with extreme conditions continuing to strain daily life throughout the province.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed on Thursday that Dadu, Sindh, logged a new peak temperature of 51.5°C — the highest recorded in the province during the current heatwave. Neighbouring cities also faced blistering conditions, with Larkana and Jacobabad both registering temperatures of 50.5°C on the same day.
The PMD had previously issued an advisory cautioning that temperatures across Pakistan during the Eid ul Adha holidays would run 5°C to 7°C above seasonal averages. A number of districts in Sindh and Balochistan — including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Dadu, Hyderabad, Turbat, and Panjgur — are forecast to see mercury levels ranging between 47°C and 50°C over the coming days.
Conditions across most of the country are expected to remain hot and dry, though residents in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, and the Potohar region may see some relief through isolated rain, windstorms, and thunderstorm activity.
On the global front, the United Nations and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) have sounded alarms over the growing threat of intensifying heatwaves across South Asia. Both bodies have cautioned that a possible return of El Niño conditions in 2026 could further amplify extreme temperatures and suppress monsoon rainfall across the region — raising serious concerns for Pakistan’s agriculture, water supply, and public health in the months ahead.
