New digital marking system fails, Indian students’ future at risk
Reports have raised concerns about problems in India’s new digital marking system used for school examinations, especially for higher secondary students.
According to an international publication, The Guardian, many students have complained about irregularities in the results of 12th-grade exams under the new system.
Following complaints about marking errors, more than 400,000 students reportedly requested copies of around 1.1 million answer sheets to review their results.
Students have also reported issues such as incomplete scanned answer sheets, missing pages, and unclear or blurred scans. In some cases, students even claimed they received answer sheets belonging to other candidates.
Parents of affected students have expressed concern, saying that such problems are affecting students’ careers, mental health, and future opportunities.
Experts and observers have raised questions about the transparency and reliability of the examination process, warning that repeated technical and administrative issues could damage trust in the education system.
The reports suggest that these concerns have led to wider debate about examination reforms and the need for improved oversight in India’s education sector.
Authorities have not issued a detailed response to all of the reported complaints so far.
